Somewhere between a crack-addled ‘Alice in Wonderland’ and a modern vision of ‘Taxi Driver’, Alyce Kills runs riot as a gritty psychological thriller set against the backdrop of Echo Park, Los Angeles’ pinnacle of urban hipster culture. After accidentally causing her best friends horrific death, Alyce is haunted by guilt and delves into a brutal nightmare wonderland of sex, drugs and violence, her mind tearing itself apart… Along with anyone else who gets in her way.

Alyce Kills serves as an antidote to Generation X and Y movies that tend to either celebrate young “slackers” as heroic anti-heroes, or portray them as stereotypical oppressed victims. Comparing the film to Polanski’s Repulsion, Slant Magazine glowingly reviewed Alyce Kills as a “parody of unearned self-entitlement, of people who feel tricked into a lifestyle they refuse to challenge for the comforts it still offers.” Critic Chuck Bowen went on to note that the film “coaxes out the anger that is latent in the prototypical middle-class arrangement, allowing worker-bee frustration to manifest itself as a palpable cloud of madness… Alyce is clearly a blossoming psychopath from minute one, but no one notices because they’re too busy tending to their own relentless self-regard.”
